The stacker crane is basically a "fork truck on a rail," In appearance, it looks like a conventional bridge crane except that in place of a hoist, a rotating ridged or telescoping mast is suspended from the bridge trolley with the mast equipped with single or double forks or a grab.

Stacker cranes are used for storing and retrieving loads in storage racks, typically where the rack is taller than 50 feet. They can be controlled remotely or by an operator in the cab.[1]
